At Jolly Giant Childcare we employ Early Childhood
Educators who are required to have a current first aid
ticket, a criminal record check, a physician’s
declaration of suitability, and two letters of recommendation.
In addition, all caregivers must have an educational
background related to child development.
Although all of our staff have post secondary education
we still insist that staff members participate in ongoing
professional development by taking workshops and courses
to upgrade and add new skills. Therefore we can say
with confidence that each child enrolled at Jolly Giant
Childcare experiences the highest quality of care. |

Rebecca has been working in the field
of Early Childhood Education for the past eleven years.
She has been involved in many levels of childcare including
daycare, preschool, and out of school care programs. Rebecca
relocated from Creston to Nanaimo in 2002 and moved to Victoria in early 2007. She loves being
with children and bringing smiles to their faces. |

My name is Nyee Marcoux- Pena. I started my childcare career early babysitting for friends and family at the young age of 13, and did so through high school. After graduation I worked for Nanaimo Parks and Recreation for four years, running the preschool and after school programs. I moved to Calgary in 1999 and worked at the University Child Care Centre for 5 years with infants and toddlers. In 2002 I was nominated for an award of Excellence in Childcare, it was a great honour.
I love working here at Jolly Giant, it’s like my second family to me.
In my spare time I Dragon Boat race, take walks with my puppy Lucy and enjoy life with my sweetheart David. |

Kelly has been a licensed
Early Childhood Educator since 2000. Teaching and caring
for children, as well as supporting families, is something
she takes in as more than just a career. "I learn
just as much from the children and their families as they
do from me," says Kelly. She is always available
to lend an ear or offer information to parents and she
gives her heart to the children. Kelly couldn't imagine
doing anything else |

Sacha graduated from Malaspina University-
College with her degree in Child and Youth Care in June
2005. She has been passionate about working with children
for as long as she can remember. Sacha has worked with
children and youth in several different settings, which
included being a support worker for preschool children.
Sacha joined the Jolly Giant team in September 2005 and
loves spending her days working and playing with the children
and building relationships with their families. |

since 1996. Upgrading along the way, Wendy graduated from
Malaspina University-College in 2001 with her ECE diploma.
Wendy is married and has three children of her own who
keep her very busy. Children with special needs touch
Wendy's heart as her second oldest child has special needs. |

Meet the Directors |

John graduated from the Early Childhood
Education and Care program at Malaspina University-College
in the spring of 1999 and he obtained his Early Childhood
Educator's license to practice soon thereafter. He quickly
pursued his dream of owning and operating a licensed group
daycare facility in Nanaimo and opened the doors to Jolly
Giant Childcare in September of 1999. John thoroughly
enjoys his job and he looks forward to going to work on
Monday mornings. |

Cheryl graduated from the Bachelor of Education program at Malaspina University-College in 1997. She currently does the bookkeeping for Jolly Giant Childcare and keeps busy spending most of her time raising her three children Tehya, Mattias, and Annika. Cheryl enjoys “homeschooling” her children as it is exciting to watch children learn and discover the world around them. She also takes time out for ice hockey and running. |
